Gid Tanner And His Skillet Lickers with Riley Puckett on vocals and guitar perform "Bully of the Town", recorded on April 17, 1926. The song dates back to at least the late 1800s. It is a challenge raised by Mississippi rivermen looking for a fight with the locals in the towns where they'd dock. Fiddler James Gideon "Gid" Tanner made his living as a farmer in Georgia. He was one of the first Southern country artists to record, making his first records in the mid 1920s.
