Re: Some Internal Questions |
Hi Sue,
Here are some answers!
1. Is the server name (iaNNNNNN.us.archive.org) permanent for an identifier? Or does it ever change (i.e. perhaps when checking out and adding new files) during the life on an identifier?
The servers don't change very often, but it does happen. If a disk goes bad, or we need to shuffle things around to make more space, etc. we do occasionally move items to new servers.
2. Along the same lines, does the ftp directory name ever change (i.e. /DIGIT/items/IDENTIFIER)-- does the "DIGIT" ever change or is it permanent?
Yes, that can change too, for the same reasons as above.
3. Is it possible to have an Identifier renamed (i.e. change from "OTRR_Radio_Show_1" to "OTRR_Radio_Show")?
Yes, I can do that for you. Just let me know what the old identifier and what you'd like to change it to. As long as the new identifier isn't being used for anything else!
4. Is is possible to have Identifiers merged (i.e. merge "OTRR_Radio_Show_A" and "OTRR_Radio_Show_B" into "OTRR_Radio_Show")?
Hmmm... I think I can do most of that. The easiest way would be if you added show B's shows to the Show A identifier. Then, I can copy over any reviews from show B, and rename show A to the new identifier. So I can salvage the reviews, but I don't think I can salvage download / batting avg numbers.
5. The history information (from http://www.archive.org/catalog.php?history=1&justme=1) seems to be tied to the email address -- we've changed email addresses several times, and history for items under our old email address no longer show up on this page. I know that we can query history for a specific identifier and see all that history no matter which email address it was submitted under, but is it possible to query for history for items on our previous email address?
I'm not sure. I'll send you a link via email, and it may or may not work for you.
Thanks,
Alexis
