Personally, I don't think interrupting a church service for the sake of protest is a good approach. It sure got them a hell of a lot of publicity though. They must have known the possible outcome of their actions and decided to act as martyrs.
As for your Mecca statement, people may not worship a rock in the middle of the desert but I see a great majority worshiping the TV screen in the middle of their living rooms.
I am grateful for the freedom I do have. I am thankful for my parents bringing me to this lovely country. I am not oblivious to the steady march towards a 1984 style existence.

I could not have typed it better (with one small quibble).
The band did not interrupt a service. The church severs a tourist function as well, like St. Patrick in NYC. I believe the band ought to have been find a small amount of money and some probation time (whatever that is in Russia). That punishment is for the folks praying in the cathedral, which ought to be inviolate anywhere. In the middle of a 'service' more so. If these girls don't get broken by prison or themselves, we may remember this day.
