Re: TDIH 1995 |
I saw things getting out of hand, I guess they always will ...
and the crowd lets out a big cheer. The comments on the show and on Deadnet are interesting. A lot of perspectives in terms of what people saw, did, thought then, thought now ... but it seems to me a big percentage of that cheering must have been, "getting out of hand. Yeah. Huh huh. Cool, Beavis."
And what's weird, too, is they were breaking in to listen to what? Tired musicians fiddling with midi effects? NSB is the only song from that show (other than Dire Wolf) I've managed to listen to all the way through. The lyrics in Fire are sure something in context, that's for sure. For the time in general, and definitely this particular show. The jam section is a slog, though. (An angry slog.)
Well, hard to run with the weight of lead ...

Re: TDIH 1995 |
It's the moment that one can't argue with, this ride is now over (yeah I know the fall tour, but did it happen?). I often don't see through the band's eyes, probably just b/c I'm a selfish D/H and I always want more, not really caring what that means to the actual people that made up GD. I feel I can see Bobby eyes as they pour over the fence, during Desolation Row of all songs. Other stuff too, but that's enough.
I saw the beginnings of this at Highgate, where the fences were massively mauled as security pulled back and the rabble poured in. It became a huge crowd, at least double of the prior year. It's not the stereotypical acid w/ a hippie joint daisy smile that I hate, but folks who would follow the scene and steal and outright beg 'for profit'. The undead of late GD.

Re: TDIH 1995 (TDIH 1994 for S :) ) |
excellent AR. I love your take on it.
One of my close friends and his wife were at
those show(S). This is a man who can explain a vast
number of things: from science to horticulture to sociology, music, geology and on and on... And when I ask him about the CSMFing
gate crashers? Speechless. Maybe its just a defense
mechanism.
I will certainly never understand it. and Im good with that.
Speaking of friends and wives and dates: happy anni to you
S. I dont know what goes on at the G-sons household, but
I hope you have a great anni today. sry bout norah. I have no idea what you were thinking, and prolly dont want to. congrats, 18 years? wow. Good on ya,
and thanks for that new site. will chex it out later.

That Eyes>Fire from this day 1994 is so tasty on paper. The execution is ok. Oh what could have been though

Re: TDIH 1995 (TDIH 1994 for S :) ) |
Okay, so I jumped in and gave it a listen today. My take from a guy who rarely ventures past '79 is that the pain and suffering of the first set was worth it to hear this version of 'Days Between'
Not quite as emotionally painful and plaintive as the 12/19/94 LA Sports Arena version - the best DB IMO - but a damn fine version. I got the impression he gave up on the singing (yeah, I realize the verses were finished) and for the last minute or so of the song he just put his pain into the guitar.

Yeah, that 40 min throwaway first set leaves a bad taste to boot.

OH crap. Almost forgot about that 88 today. Gonna go for
that! Kinda scared looking at the Eyes>IWTYH though...
I see you been there and done that:

The help/slip/frank chant started right as the band took to the stage for set 2. No dice until the fall 89. Great time, very cool show. You'll hear a giant impromptu roar from the crowd right as Jerry completes the jamming portion of Bird Song. A hanglider flew right over the stage at that point.
Revise: In honor of the 4th of july I listened to this again and the hey pocky way is atomic. Mydland was feeling it because he totally cuts off Weir's Looks like rain tuning and goes for it. Top notch.
~~~~~~
The 66 and 69 looks like great 'preparing and then
eating' supper tunes for tonight.
Eat, breath, and live the GD
Look, the 5 stars may be a tad bit of a reach(it's not barton hall) but this is a really fun show. Kind of raunchy in parts.. Strong brent show and that second set really cooks. Awesome Bird song to boot. If you listen to a good audience tape you can hear a few folks give a loud "awww" when the band pulls thr rip cord after 6 songs.
Re: TDIH 1995 |
This was the Jerry "death threat" show if I recall. Hence the Dire Wolf selection in the first set
I will forever love him for that. Stick it right back in yer' eye.
I believe this happened to him 5, 6, 7 times over the course of his career?
