Check out Merriweather Post 6/20/83. Bobby flips at the end. Great show overall, too.

http://archive.org/details/gd1971-04-26.sbd.miller.105815.flac24This is my favorite. I guess having Duane on stage was an inspiration to Jerry. Although inspiration might have resulted in irreparable damage to Jerry's wah-wah pedal as it appears to have been busted by 4-29.
This one is not available here, but if you dig a little you can find it. If not, just let me know.

Re: A recommended Sugar Magnolia |
Well while looking for my favorite Sugar Magnolia in the world (which I think we talked about on here not too long ago) from this show:
http://archive.org/details/gd77-12-30.sbd.dp-leftovers.20009.sbeok.shnfI found the my new most favorite Peggy O ever. You should give that a listen when you get a chance.
The Sugar Mags from that date, while listed on the player here, is mislabeled and doesn't actually appear on this site. You'll have to hunt down and insert DP 10 to hear it. It's worth it, as it's hands down the best one ever.

My wife and I saw the actor who played Kenny Banya at the Oysterhead show at the Greek in Berkeley. Funny stuff...

Re: A recommended Sugar Magnolia |
Well, to quote your review over there:
"Yep. Uh-huh. This is it."
Obviously, I need to listen to the rest of this show ... don't think I have ever heard it.
Someone quotes Phil telling the crowd, ""I just want all of you to know, that this is the happiest day of my life."
Anyone know why Phil was so happy?
Helluva "Might as Well" ... never heard anything like that!

Re: A recommended Sugar Magnolia |
Let me know if/when you do...obviously i'm not expecting you to think it's "the best", but it always amazes me how under-the radar this show really is for one so brazenly smoking....could be b/c finding a good show in '77 is like falling off a greased log, and it gets lost in the reeds, but the sheer volume of OUTSTANDING versions of nearly every song played that night never fails to stun me.

It really is a great show. I don't even care about Might as Well, but I agree ... it's fantastic.

Really? I love Might as Well. Kinda sums up a feeling that I associate with the Grateful Dead - "might as well" in some happy half-druggy metaphysical sense :)

Re: A recommended Sugar Magnolia |
On the whole I think the melody just never grabbed me. I can enjoy it, but it's more like OMSN or Don't Ease (for me) ... it's nice enough, but usually nothing special. I get it more from having seen Festival Express, but personally it never spoke to me much. Sugar Magnolia, on the other hand, is wonderful :-)

I like "Don't Ease" too :) sure, not as weighty or important as lots of others, but always grabs me. She brings me coffee, she brings me tea ...

Re: A recommended Sugar Magnolia |
It has a similar sound to Might as Well; light and bouncy. Major chords? Similar keys? Anyway, somehow very similar, but the sound for whatever reason doesn't grab me as much.
Even though it's not a favorite overall, I do have a few Don't Eases that really stand out to me. Check out 3/24/70 and 10/29/73. I'm not saying "best" or "top 10" or anything, because I just don't know enough for that at all, but they're good ones. Like the 10/29/77 Might as Well. (Funny about 10/29s ...)
