Dear Tracey,

Sorry for the delay. I cannot post a direct link to the site. But I embedded (for example) this one:

I hope you can fix it.

You mentioned something about the new player I do not understand. I can choose to see the flash player or the html one on archive.org but when I embed the movie there is only one code available. And in that player, full screen does not work. Can I embed another code?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Best regards,

Marjan Nordholt

Hi Marjan,

OK here's what's going on (I know what you're conveying, even w/o the /embed/ 8-)
When you are on a /details/ page, you can "prefer" to have flash or html5 first. However, it's just a preference order -- both are used.
So in practice, if your browser is something like a recent chrome/firefox/safari/IE9, with a flash plugin installed, then it can do both
(it can play a .mp4 via flash plugin; it can play a .mp4 or .ogv "natively" via an html5 [video] tag). We default to try/use html5 if your browser says it can play with that method, and "fallback" to flash plugin.

Due to some issues with some patrons, we decided to reverse that preference order as a clickable "sticky" option (to prefer flash plugin first and only use html5 if flash plugin playback not available).

We haven't (as of now, at least) opted to allow for that on /embed/ pages directly, per se -- BUT if you prefer flash on the archive.org site, then if you visit (using the same browser) another site that is using an archive.org /embed/ code -- you'll prefer flash there, too! 8-)

Lastly, it's worth pointing out that your preference is just for you and your browser. It doesn't change it for all visitors of archive.org for that item and doesn't change it for all visitors of a given off-site embed of an archive.org item.

Hope that makes sense!

Dear Tracey,

What I understand from your reply is that there is only one way to embed the movie and that, on my Internetsite, the movie is either shown as a flash or a html mediaplayer, depending on what preferences the viewer has chosen on archive.org?

Can you fix the thumbs in my embedded player, the old ones (http://www.archive.org/flow/flowplayer.commercial-3.2.1.swf?) I mean? Or do I have to replace all code with the new code?

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,

Marjan Nordholt

Dear Marjan,

OK, so we found the issue with MendiCoast TV (not related to the new player) -- this was for the flowplayer now "older" embed codes. (We recently updated our serving of missing images to return a 404 response code, and that somehow tangled up serving of thumbnails in general for these embed codes, eek! (that wasn't my change, but it's still our bad for not noticing the breakage).

fixed now for you, too?

and yes, you understand me right. in the new embed codes, the same preference of "i prefer flash more than html5" (or vice versa) on archive.org site will also have that preference for offsite embedded audio/video for that user as well (it's a very small simple cookie set or not set, to make that preference -- and with the new embed codes, any of the small cookies "move around" with the embed. nothing creepy going on here! we require all employees here to ensure all user logs are irreversibly anonymized for our visitors -- we *DONT* want to know what you are reading/watching/listening to! 8-)

hope that's all helpful info, etc.

Dear Tracey,

Thank you for the fix and explanation. Indeed, my thumbs are back!

But concerning the player. Visitors of my site do not know/are not interested as to where these movies reside and how they can choose to view either html or flash, they do not visit archive.org in order to be able to watch the movies on my site. I hope it makes sense to you what I am trying to tell you.
I am afraid I will have to find a solution myself.

Thank you for any helpful comments :-)

Kind regards,

Marjan
