I am a sportfishing boat captain. Ive been running a 45' Bertram out of Shinnecock/Montauk and Ocean Reef, FL.
I'm living at Pirates Cove in Manteo this Winter buying Bluefin and Bigeye Tuna. I'm in Wanchese every day at several commercial docks. As you know Oregon Inlet is a major problem now. The commercial fishing comunity is depressed as a result.
The Wanchese boat builders are struggling in this economy. Sad to see Sculley fold up. Who's next?
Let's have a beer at Basnights next time you are in the area.

That record marlin caught out of the Cove tourney back in '08, was off our company boat, the "Mimi", Paul Spencer was on board.
We used to stay there while in town before we got the house. Some cushy digs.

Mando hipped me to the OBX Brewing Station when we met at the Mustang Festival in Corolla in November. I have not checked it out yet, but Im sure I'll get there next month when I head back down to NC.
I have been drinking a ton of Duck/Rabbit Milk Stout down there. That brew is dynamite. Notes of Cocoa with an amazing Espresso finish. (100 pts)...

I passed through Talkeetna on vacation. Spent about 3 hours there and could easily have stayed, though I'm not sure I could handle the extended darkness and temps of 40 below. The view from the riverbank to Denali is spectacular.

Dont tell anyone but that forty below stuff is Fairbanks and up. Talkeetna is a little north of us so gets colder but typically not that extreme. The darkness is lame but we have more sun than anyone else 7 months out of the year

I just got back from Bedford, Vir. My wife's family has been there, growing tobaccy, since before the Revolutionary War.
Last year, there was 12" of snow on the ground; this year, we didn't even wear jackets during the day.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll have to check it out. There will definitely be Boh's and crabs a plenty when I am out there. I visit a college friend of mine who is from there every year, I just got a new job opportunity that is allowing me to move there. I'm very excited.

The New Forest, in Hampshire, England. They started calling it the New Forest over 900 years ago, around the time that William the Conqueror was King. It was the royal hunting grounds when the throne was in Winchester. Beautiful place, but I know I am the only deadhead for MILES around. I'm not the only American in my village, though. I used to work with a girl who's Dad was a big deadhead, and I think she said her parents went on a couple or few tours back in the 80s, and that's about when she was born - 87ish? She said her dad played a tape in the delivery room when she was born, but she couldn't remember what song was on.. ha ha. Her folks split up, but she said her dad lived near Basingstoke, - which is the main city close to South Warnborough. I never met the guy and lost touch with that girl, who was from outside of Winchester. She is probably about 22 now, that was a few years ago. Is someone from Durham considered Jeordie? or is it just Newcastle?

I don't believe it's the same guy, so maybe there are TWO Hants Deadheads out there. If it is him then he's kept the existence of that daughter very quiet; it would come as a bit of a shock to my cousin.
Durham people don't think of themselves as Geordies (strictly Newcastle, though only about 15 miles away). I say "they" because I'm a bit of a nomad as far as England is concerned (London, Wiltshire, Suffolk, Newcastle, and Durham for the last 20 years). If we're talking football, Durham's closest big teams, and sworn enemies, are Newcastle and Sunderland. A Newcastle win would cheer me up, but they lost again tonight.

I don't have the pleasure of knowing the King (any relation to Julio down by the schoolyard?) but I've lived in Rego Park area for more than thirty years, with the LIRR rumbling by at all hours. Currently down Woodhaven Blvd. near the cemetery, if you remember the area.
Also, yer honor, my sister lives in Guntersville AL, where they're still rebuilding from the tornado shitstorm this past spring. If you're in the market for a storm shelter, they have a first-class product.

My grandmother was near 99th and 62nd drive. My cousin lives down the block still but she is the last of about five of them that were the original homeowners in that part of Queens.

You can go watch a game of bocce across the street. We always called it Spaghetti Park though I am sure it has a more "official" name.
Guntersville: I grew up in Huntsville and spent many high school weekends camped out at different marinas around Guntersville Lake. We always thought the G-Lake girls were exotic—and then morning would come!

maybe not in those days. I know the one time I had a car I NEVER drove it. It was more of a hassle and more expensive parking than taking bus and bart. Of course that was mid 80's early 90's. I envy the hell out of you getting to experience Winterland

I used to park near Winterland and just leave the car doors unlocked and $5 in the glove box, so no broken windows. On those rare luv dates, I'd park at the Japanese Culture Center Parking

Saw Xtra Ticket many years ago. Don't really get out to the clubs anymore. Favorite place was Bostons in Tempe (not sure if it's still there). Was a nice "home away from home" when I first arrived in the valley. Owner was a retired businessman from Mass and they had NESN and WSBK on sattelite for my sports fix.
