That's it for me. For a short while at least. I've decided it's time to explore the musical realms once again. For the past 8 years, hardly a day has gone by that I haven't listened to the Dead. I have to take baby steps, or I'll experience severe withdrawal symptoms, so I've started my detox with some Robert Hunter shows, and I'd like to recommend the following excellent show:

creek has always been a regular in my rotation, and will continue to be for the rest of my life. do you have any particular recommendations of certain songs or shows that micah hasn't posted yet?

thanks port. herbie has such a large musical catalogue, and there's still a decent amount i've yet to hear from him.

never heard of topaz, but i will check out the show with melvin sparks as a guest, since i'm familiar with and greatly enjoy his style.

I appreciate the suggestions, but that's not exactly my cup of tea. As a guitar player, I tend to enjoy guitar-based music the most. The only genres I really shy away from are death metal, grindcore, and those ridiculous metal genres that just involve growling and hitting double bass drum pedals as fast as humanly possible. Pop music I have no tolerance for either, but otherwise, there's not much that I don't enjoy.

I am a guitar player as well and admittedly electronic music got me away from playing my own music and onto the dance floor multiple times a week for months and months. Then I got a 9-5 job and started playing my guitar again in the evenings after work... Ah the cycles of life. Of my suggestions, you may like russliquid the most... he's a talented piano and trumpet player.

" he's a talented piano and trumpet player."

i'll check that one out. i used to play piano, and i also love a good pianist, no pun intended. particularly classical style pianists. other than phil, jeff chimenti is the sole reason i go see furthur. liszt, hofmann, and chopin, put a smile on my face, among many others of course.

i'm also a sucker for the jazz-funk herbie hancock/stevie wonder-type music. kimock is my favorite guitarist touring today.

not much piano-based music i don't enjoy either.

You know what really got me going on this bass-driven electronic music? I loved the sweet overdrive that Phil got on his bass in '73-'74... like in the Dark Stars from 3-28-73 and 8-1-73 for example. When I heard those wobbly overdriven bass synths in dubstep and electro house track, it tickled that very same spot somewhere between between my ears, brain and large intestine... haw haw haw

The first recorded music I paid for in 2-3 years is Russ Liquid's "love makes them so...".

Here's a link to his debut album, Purple... the first couple tracks give a nice sampling of his style... nice classical guitar sample in the 1st and righteous trumpet solo in the 2nd...

And the recent followup:

p.s. ditto on Chimenti and Herbie Hancock / Chick Corea!

I am REALLY enjoying this right now. although i don't like a lot of synth music, i love dub step, and the incorporation of that sound within this brilliant blend of modern and classical playing, is fascinating. you done good. this will keep me busy for awhile. thank you.

i've only made it to track 6 so far, but every song has been incredible. i'm very impressed by this guy, and thrilled to find out he's still so young. this stuff is really unique. kudos to russ liquid.

You're very welcome - I'm glad to pass on something that has given me lots of joy in the past 6 months... Russ is a very humble dude as well - I've seen him live a couple times and once in a very intimate setting... told him how much I enjoyed his music and that his was the first album I paid for in 3 years and he said, "That's why I do this stuff" and gave me a big hug :)
