Pig Songs |
Hiya Group,
Could yall recommend some good pigpen songs. I really love The Rub and was wondering what other songs pigpen sang and play harmonica? I know there are many good lovelights out there but I am drawing a blank on other pig songs.
Thanks All

Re: Pig Songs |
I dig the Pig Pen Good Lovins form 71-72. Mainly for the way Garcia shreds it but honestly I'm not a fan of the Pig Pen raps but I dig some of the ones from Good Lovin.

Re: Pig Songs |
How about the last "Operator" ? I tend to prefer the shorter tunes like "Chinatown", "Mr. Charlie", "Next Time You see Me" and similar.
My memory fails me so, sorry, no link but I think it's from one of the Ken and Judy Lee Port Chester Restoration Project shows - i.e. an 'aud' but a very listenable one.
Good hunting ................

Re: Pig Songs |
Lum: I think Mr Charlie, in particular from 8-6 via the AUD here or the RT's whatever #, is one of the best Pig songs ever. And, I love Operator from the album. Last, It hurts me too, available via Lou's upload here from 66 is damn fine...ie, the Historic/Vintage DEAD one.

11/19/66, the "fraternal cousin" of 3/18/67, has that string of songs that showcase all of Pig's talents, from his organ work in Same Thing, harp on Smokestack>King Bee, etc.

Re: Pig Songs |
You should check out 1966-02-25. The sound quality is as good as any dead recording gets and it is certainly a pig showcase. King Bee > Caution. Lord have mercy.
would link ya to it but dont know how to copy and paste on this fuckin mac...

Re: Pig Songs |
Check out some of The Stranger (two souls in communion) from the Europe Run, especially the last one he sings, it is kind of like a goodbye without knowing he will not be touring with the band much after Europe and will not be with them the next year, very sad and it sent chills up my spine last time I heard it! I forget the show but I believe it was one of the Strand shows
