Re: What to do on Tuesday for those SFO Heads |
The S.F Giants are honoring Jerry at the ballpark on Tues. Lesh and Weir will sing the Natl. Anthem and Mickey and Bill Walton will lead the 7th inning strstch with Take Me Out to The Ball Game. Not sure if it's a day or night game.

I know... It's a night game too. But I can't make it to the game. It would be really cool.

Re: What to do on Tuesday for those SFO Heads |
Always good advice. I'm sure I won't be there late. I just want to be "Part of it" at least for a while. I have to be back at the office in the morning, in south SFO.

Re: What to do on Tuesday for those SFO Heads |
I'm not sure what you will be a "part of" at Haight and Stanyan at that time, but I would think that there would be better places to celebrate. At least I plan on finding one.
there's just not the "nicest" people hanging around there these days. My old hood just doesn't seem as friendly.
I'll let you know what I find.
It's difficult to believe that it's been 16-years.
btw: For the past few years, the gigantes have been using a "pricing equation" for pricing each game. This year, the World Series win added an x-factor and the special event will add a y. It's one of the reasons that I like sitting watching the junior circuit team across the bay, in the biggity-biggity-O.

Re: What to do on Tuesday for those SFO Heads |
I purposely left recommendations out, since I had yet to give it any thought passed getting to jerry day tomorrow.
I began writing a thing or two but realized it's better to confirm and provide something concrete than general locations. It sounds like your time is tight and I'd hate for you to ruin it on a bad rec.
I wasn't going to provide any recommendations until I looked around and also hear what's happening while at jerry day tomorrow (that's if I can go).
But as soon as I hear something I will post.
As noted, I'm looking for a place to give thanks myself.

I'll be doggoned! (I know, that's Bobby) Leaving Thursday evening, but I'll be back the same time the following week. Sunday through Thursday afternoon. Crazy work week.

Re: What to do on Tuesday for those SFO Heads |
I have not forgotton you staggerleib and shall post something later tonight.
Sad to say, my city so far is letting me down from an event perspective, outside of the giants. But it might have something to do with the night and venues.
But if nothing else I will provide a few options where you should feel the spirit.
It's too bad you are departing on Thursday since the Berzerkeley Azhkanazy event looks good. Though if you are back next week, then I'm sure you can experience a little more.

Re: What to do on Tuesday for those SFO Heads |
sorry, I'm slow...
so I think there is at least one acoustic jerry lover playing, though unfortunately it's in North Beach; which to me is the second least dead feeling spot in the city, after the marina.
Though I've been thinking more of your "part of" statement.
What's better on a day like today: listening to someone play the tunes but in an area with little "feeling" or be in a place where you can feel the connection by just walking down the street?
If it's the later then rastomon was on target from the beginning and I was slow.
Though I might graviate more towards Haight and Ashbury side of the upper Haight than to the park side.
Though it's worth the walk to to Stanyan and the park to check out the scene. Who knows, the spirit of the day could have some folks acting civil for a change.
There is a fine brewery at haight and masonic where the tunes should be playing. For a number of years there was a touching jerry memorial on the opposite corner of magnolia brewery; and I wouldn't be surprised if it was still there.
Since we are still in "winter" you might see one of the cool observances in the haight and that is seeing the fog line stop in the middle of masonic street. You can be in the middle of the street and stand in a manner where you can only see half of your body. it's the only place where fog ever came into my apartment.
Of course the trip should include a walk past 710 Ashbury.
(though in my mind I like to think of them at 714 Ashbury.)
Just stay-out of amoeba records unless you want to spend everything you have on cds/records. I'm not sure there is another store like it on the planet.
Admittedly I don't spend much time in the upper Haight, more because of the different type of "street person" problem that the neighborhood endures than anything else.
I spend much more time in the lower Haight, the "spirit" might be a little less, but then you don't have the same street issues that you find in the upper Haight.
A lower Haight stop: toronado - a great tap room for local brews and belgians.
Of course, just let me know if you have any other questions (e.g., directions, mass transit, etc., etc.).
I am not sure of my Tuesday workday, but I'd like to meet you while you are here either this week or next.
I'll post the music venues in the AM, once I check for open mics, etc.. I would think some might be "deadicated."
Also let me know if I'm going in the right direction or not; and then I can add info from there.
btw: here is their farewell show to the haight:
http://www.archive.org/details/gd68-03-03.aud.vernon.9374.sbeok.shnfit's a great "vision" to carry when walking down haight.

Re: What to do on Tuesday for those SFO Heads |
I couldn't ask more. You've put great thought into this, and how much more could I request? I'd love to meet as well.
So, where, if you would like to meet up, would that be? I'll buy you a brew.
