Ratdog? |
So, I'm wondering what the general opinion of Ratdog is here at the forum. I'm listening to 8/9/95 today (
http://www.archive.org/details/rd1995-08-09.dsbd.flaschner.flac16) and find myself pleasantly surprised. Wasserman sounds especially "on." Beyond seeing them in '96 (I don't remember much...), listening to the bits of the studio album included on the Weir Here compilation, I don't have much knowledge. Any show/recording recommendations would be appreciated.

Re: Ratdog? |
The early Ratdog I heard , somehow, did not impress me . when Phil got his "Quintet"going, I was a Phil guy . Strangely , it was the tour with Kimock ( 07 ) that made me realize how really good Ratdog had become . So I went back and started listening to a bunch of the RD shows . Though I still, think P+Fs was the better outfit ( John Molo !), there are times I think Ratdog was equal, if not more inspired .
One of the downsides of "The Dead", and "Furthur", has been fewer shows/tours . With RD and P+Fs ,we got X2 shows ! 2 bands , instead of 1 .
It's funny, many of the things that can annoy me with Bob's GD performances, are absent with Ratdog .

Re: Ratdog? |
I just now read this for the first time and I am a little suprised. Im one of the few here who would tell you to pony up the dollars and go see Furthur...Now, with that being said i will tell you that Ratdog easily puts on the worst show out of the present GD spinoffs. Phil and Friends can be good to very good and the same goes for Furthur imo. Ratdog blows. I ve seen them three times and all three times I thought it was subpar - kinda Bob just going through the motions. Im sure my feelings reflect many others feelings about Furthur. I would never ever pay to see Ratdog again. Furthur yes and Phil and Friends yes and even DSO yes. Ratdog no!

Saw both of these shows as well; it was a really fun couple of nights, and I think everyone was absolutely impressed and surprised with how well Bobby brought it to the table.

Re: Ratdog? |
8/9/95 proves Bob is capable of putting his heart and soul into his playing
Between "Throwing Stones" and Wasserman's "Amazing Grace" bass solo, this is a beautifully brutal,or is it brutally beautiful show.
