Forum: etree Subject: Maintenance for Archive.org - Wednesday, March 2

The archive.org site will be “read only” for approximately 24 hours starting early tomorrow morning (PST), Wednesday, March 2. We also expect it to be slow and somewhat error prone during this time.

All archive.org items are stored on at least two servers – a primary and a backup server. The backup servers will be unplugged and moved to a new data center location tomorrow morning. Once they’re in their new home, they will be brought back online as soon as possible. (This will probably take much less than 24 hours, we’re just being cautious in case there are unforseen issues!)

While the backup servers are offline you can still view/download items in the archive from the primary servers – you’ll be able to listen to concerts, watch movies and read books. However, new uploads or any changes to existing items will be held and not go public on the site until the backups are in place again. So you can “read” from archive.org tomorrow, but you will not be able to add to it or make changes to it.

Please note: while the backup servers are offline, all of our typical traffic will be going to half the normal number of servers. So we expect archive.org to be slow during this transition, and we expect to see errors. If you are seeing problems on the site, please try again on Thursday, March 3, before contacting us for assistance (because boy are we going to be busy!)

Thanks for your patience, and we look forward to returning to normal operations on Thursday.

Hi. It looks like the unforeseen issues you mentioned above may have arisen. The search engine is still not working (although it was working for a short time very early this morning, which leads me to believe you're still just down a few servers). Just thought I'd say, in case you didn't already know. Thanks!

Getting tons of server IO errors and having to upload files multiple times before all of them will go through. Then took forever to check in my first recording. Now getting an item error after checking in the second (did not get a checkin confirmation on it either: http://www.archive.org/details/brock2011-02-17.flac16

Guessing this is still just a lingering side effect of the server migration but in case you weren't aware I figured I'd share.

I'm sure that you guys are already working on it, but it doesn't look like new uploads are getting through. I uploaded a show overnight and I get the message "This show is not yet public" (or something like that) when I try to go to its' page. Here's the show:
