Funny that you make such a distinction: "West Coast only". It does appear that the more "aggressive" towns have more fireworks. In fact, it is said that Floyd a rare "Careful with that Axe, Eugene" encore in Oakland because the had been "so well-behaved."

Alright, NYorkers: were fireworks common at concerts in the 70's?

You can hear a fairly loud explosion on Jerry Moore's audience tape of 7/29/74 during To Lay Me Down,about 4 minutes in.
