Need copyright status of info on item without date |
The item is called "On the shoulders of giants". It appears to date from the second half of the 1970's (it could not have been made after 1981, and could NOT have been made before 1972). It is a documentry on Apollo 17, and credits the writer as "Don Wiseman", and credits the company as "A-V Corp", and possibly NASA (if NASA was the poduction company, then there is a 98% chance it is PD, but I never take chances). If it is PD, then maybe somebody with a good copy could upload it. If it is PD but nobody else has a copy, I will be forced to upload it myself (though my DVD copy is exceptionally poor).
A documentry also seemingly credited as being produced by NASA/A-V Club called "the mission of Apollo-Soyuz" is also of interest to me as an item somebody could upload with me giving a glowing, highly positive review. It is almost certainly from the second-half of the 1970's judging by the editing/narration style.
And how about the fantastically dated "Skylab: The First 40 Days"?

Re: Need copyright status of info on item without date |
dove.org
http://www.dove.org/MovieReview.asp?Unique_ID=2824 says the release date is 1989, cannata communications corp. but that could just be another distributor.
archive.org might not (yet) have the forum you need for this question, (i don't know,) maybe an email to these guys would help:
http://www.law.duke.edu/cspd/ they probably can't tell you who owns the video, but they might know more about what's really nasa's, the details, etc.

Re: Need copyright status of info on item without date |
I've got copies of original NASA prints of all of these films.
The films's dates are as follows:
Apollo 17 - On The Shoulders of Giants (1972)
Mission of Apollo Soyuz (1975)
Skylab - The First 40 Days (1973)
The AV Corp was a government contractor that provided production services for the NASA film and video unit. The copyright exemption for works created during the course of employment in a federal government agency extends to contract work completed as work for hire. Copyright cannot be claimed on these films.

Awesome...I was hoping the general "most US Goverment works aren't copyrighted as a rule" would apply here, but I didn't want to take any chances.
I promise, if you upload them, I'd check the picture is fine (since IA sometimes accidently cuts off part of the file and stuff like that), and give them the most glowing reviews I have done in ages.

I thought that 100% of NASA's films and photos are public domain?

Re: Need copyright status of info on item without date |
That is what I assumed, but I after several "accidents" (several of which left me very embarrassed), I never take chances, even with content that, under normal circumstances, would almost certainly be PD.
