Didn't finally make it out west till Frost '85, but can relate well. Similar experiences with places like when they switched from the Syracuse War Memorial to the Dome.
Thankful that I started early enough (well not THAT early) to see shows like Barton Hall '81, Rochester War Memorial, etc. before the big push came.

Yeah, for us, SF shows had a "origins" kind of feel, whatever that was, whereas Oak shows were sorta "new" or "commercial" or whatever (large stark parking lots, not a venue "inserted" within the local city, etc., etc.).
Now that I think of it though, the whole "parking lot" scene, which I missed, needed the venues like Oak I suppose???
