bd -

Not trying to stir the pot, but Billy did an interview on the Grateful Dead channel on Sirius a while back (I am trying to find the transcript) and addressed DSO with a slightly different spin than what was in the article you sourced.

I'm paraphrasing here but he said the same thing (about a band spending that much time on music should also be doing original stuff). He then went on to say that that was an unfair comment because he also understood what DSO was doing with recreating the Grateful Dead experience and that he had a tremendous amount of respect for the diligence of their efforts to be accurate. He added that what DSO was doing with the recreation effort was a great value to the music community and playing original music and recreating shows were two distinctly different efforts.

I got on the bus 13 years after Jerry died (better late than never...). DSO has been great for me - I've gotten a taste of what you folks got to experience back in the day. I'm grateful they recreate classic shows and don't do their own stuff.
