Upside Out...Inside Down!! |
Every time I listen to Passenger, I wonder why on Earth they retired it after the New Years run in '81. To me it was a truly unique song, a straight ahead balls out rocker, with the power chords, built in Phil bombs, and Jerry whipping out the slide. It was always a highlight of the first set, and the crowd always got stoked when it was played.
The closest tunes to it I guess were Greatest Story and Samson & Delilah, and I would have rather they retired either of those than Passenger.
My favorite version is from 10/28/79, a show that takes off from note 1 of half step and never lets up. Personally, I think this is a better show from the first song to the last, than the more famous one from the night before.

I love Passenger, one of Phil's better songs...

that's why I really enjoy the 1977 versions of that song. I just love Donna hair. Get's me all comfy.

Re: Upside Out...Inside Down!! |
You are correct. 8-12-79 is the best version I've heard. Jerry shreds his guitar on the ending solo and this is a super clear SBD. The deadset version is pretty good also which I believe is 10-11-80. It may be my favorite Jerry slide solo.
Actually if you take the 1st solo from 10-11-80 with the 2nd solo from 8-12-79 it would be too much to handle.

Pretty neat show, even though Jer is so sick. Its almost as if he's rallying. Too bad they will never release the video...

Re: Upside Out...Inside Down!! |
why not? It's pro shot. There's no guest artist, they weren't on a TV show with copywrite considerations. Does it have something to do with the radio thing?
I don't understand why they won't just get it over with. Lemeiux ( sp? ) said there was a LOT more of the Winterland 74 footage. Why won't they release this stuff? I about crapped when I saw there's 71 footgae from France. Never knew that existed until about a year or so ago.

I have a the 78 Duke show shot by the Duke film school. Betty Board laid on top of it for audio. It's black and white and terrific. Just ran across it in all my cds yesterday. I don't know how to seed it, but if someone wants to show me how I will.

It looks like you have a rare GEM! Maybe Tigerbolt, Charlie Miller, Hseamons and other seed wizards may help -if only they read this thread

Hey wineland, let me know if you are serious about that. That is one of my favorite shows but I don't have a good sound quality for it.
Thanks.

Not the film school - it was student cable station that was shown in dorms and around campus.

Re: Upside Out...Inside Down!! |
I really like that tune as well. Would have been a nice bust out in later years to add some "uumpth" to the band. I'll throw Lazy Lightning in there too.

I skip past Passenger a lot -- especially the Donna versions.
