wasn't there a tune by Sam that Jer did all the time? The only one I can find searchin is Good Times that the boys did.

Re: JGB/Sam Cooke |
Did Garcia play that? I know he played the Louis Armstrong Wonderful World, but I think the Sam Cooke one is: "Don't know much about history..." etc. I would be surprised if he did (but for some reason, I don't think I'd want to hear it!)
But now, looking at the list at jerrysite.com, I wouldn't be at all surprised if one of those was a Sam Cooke number. That's a pretty extensive list.

Didn't Jerry cover "Second That Emotion" (if you got the notion...)?

That was a Smokey Robinson & The Miracles song, but without that database I posted, I can't say off the top of my pointed little head whether he did that one or not.

Re: JGB/Sam Cooke |
Bryan E is right - I was actually thinking of Bring it on Home to Me (if Jer didn't cover this, seems perfect for him)

Re: JGB/Sam Cooke |
I can think of a few Sam Cooke songs that would have worked well for Jerry: You Send Me, Another Saturday Night, Cupid, and, yeah, Bring It On Home. Cooke was great.

Jerry doing "cupid" on valentine's day as an encore. I can see it.

Re: JGB/Sam Cooke |
Pat,
he did play that version.(slide ruler) It's not bad. I want to say around 1993/94 it got in the rotation. I got confused last week because I never knew he did the louis Armstrong version as well.

Re: JGB/Sam Cooke |
i thought that was louis jordan, but with a lot of these tunes, the original versus the cover gets kind of blurred over time.

Re: JGB/Sam Cooke |
Louis Jordan---now, there's a guy whose songs could have made some great Garcia covers: Choo Choo Ch'boogie, Caldonia, Nobody Knows You When You're Down And Out, Is You Is Or Is You Ain't My Baby?, What's The Use Of Getting Sober (When You're Gonna Get Drunk Again)? Oh yeah!
Buddy Guy did a pretty sassy version of Saturday Night Fish Fry.

Re: JGB/Sam Cooke |
Jerry did Lucky Old Sun, that was covered by Sam Cooke but was really most famously covered by Ray Charles
