Re: movie summaries |
If IMDB agreed, that would probably be legally okay. However, always remember:
"To ask permission is to be denied permission." -- DEVO
(I am not a lawyer, by the way, just a copyright geek. Bet you didn't know there was such a thing...)

Re: movie summaries |
Hey all,
I spoke to Skip, and he confirmed that some of the descriptions were originally sourced from the IMDB. He's now writing fresh descriptions which will replace them - the movies will stay up while the rewriting is going on.
Thanks to all,
s!

Re: movie summaries |
That sounds good.
I guess there are also some "sourced" from Movies Unlimited.
I hate that I keep coming off sounding like a cop on these forums - I'm really more of an anarchist.

Re: movie summaries |
Uust a few comments, please treat kindly. Lawyers give legal opinions and even the best are often proven wrong and therefore a layman,s opinion should be approached with caution. Secondly, I often think the movie archive is like an Orchard with lovely pieces of film on trees or on the ground waiting to be picked and trespassers not welcome. I do NOT dare to comment further. Thank you for reading

Which is why I said I'm not a lawyer. I should have added "My opinion is worth NOTHING in a court of law."
I have no idea what you mean by the orchard analogy.

Re: movie summaries |
to RIDETHEORY my comments were not related to you. The orchard example is that I can enjoy the fruit, but only in a proper and decent manner. A fool or trespasser might sample many fruits, tossing them to the ground to rot until he he finds the perfect example that satisfy his peculiar tsstebuds. No further comments by me on these or similar subjects

Re: movie summaries |
What's wrong with a trespasser sampling fruits? I can sample every film here and let them rot in my electronic trashcan and I don't think that that degrades this Archive.

PS. How does one enjoy a film in a 'Respectful and Decent manner?'

Re: movie summaries |
From what I gather, jack2 has a greater reverence for these films than many of the other users of the archive, and he posts comments when he feels reviewers, posters or filmmakers have behaved in a childish or improper manner.
He doesn't always agree with what I say, but he defends my right to say it, so his heart's in the right place.
