Here is my favorite line from a James Dickey poem, one called "Adultery":

"We have all been in rooms
We cannot die in, and they are odd places, and sad."

Is that not awesome?

"The glacier knocks in the cupboard,
The desert sighs in the bed,
And the crack in the tea-cup opens
A lane to the land of the dead"

...as thoughts deny their honesty,
and words costume as cheer
...we'll hide ourselves like enemies,
when signs of love bring fear.

the difference between a whore and a bitch is;
a whore does everybody
a bitch does everybody but you.

Dickey was a great writer--really down to earth. Sometimes down and dirty, too, of course. I've never forgotten those lines since the first time I read them.

Oh, and Rasta, I like the Auden, too.

incredible lines (infortunately hit a little too close to home in my past)

Look up "Reading Genesis to a Blind Child" for a purely visceral powerful touching poem which will blow your mind. I'm pretty sure one of his boys from his first marriage was blind. The texture of the language and the imagarey in relation to that texture just reaches off the page and you feel as if you ARE that blind child. Very powerful.

Glad you knew the poet man - very nice!!! kudos!!! that was a tough one

Hey desact - I was lurking at DH recently and saw the link to your published article.

Congrats.

Really interesting article. Most folks never have to think about such tasteless marketing tactics. I am inspired by your spirit and tenacity.

Thanks for sharing your experience.
