254 itemsWelcome to West Virginia Wesleyan College
West Virginia Wesleyan College is a small, private liberal arts institution of around 1,200 students situated in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains in Buckhannon, WV. The school was founded in 1890 as the West Virginia Conference Seminary and was meant to serve the secondary education and pre-college needs of the Methodist Church in West Virginia. Its history intersects strongly with both West Virginia Methodism as well as the Buckhannon/Upshur County community. The college library houses (though does not manage) the archives for the West Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.
Included are items from the Jones Lincoln Collection, the lifetime collection of Wesleyan alumnus Dr. Charles Aubrey Jones. At the time of his death in 1974, Dr. Jones had the third largest collection of Lincoln artifacts in the U.S. which was presented to the College by Dr. Jones' daughter, Elizabeth Jones.
