First American edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica, including the preface to the English edition. Based on the third edition of the Britannica, with many articles revised or re-written. Issued in parts, from 1790 to 1797. Title pages to all 18 volumes dated 1798. Cf. Evans 22486. Evans assigns a separate number to each volume as issued, and separate numbers (Evans 33676-33693) to each of the 18 volumes as issued in 1798
